Why use a sleep cover?

Eilidh Hardy, Founder of Coperi, has put together this wonderful piece on why you should use a sleep cover.

“When first starting to look into baby routines and nap schedules, it can be daunting to see days dissected into segments of nap times and wake windows. Suddenly, the option to nip out for a coffee, run an errand, or see a friend seems to disappear as your life becomes seemingly dictated by your baby’s routine. Maintaining a consistent sleep schedule can appear to be at odds with your ability to just live your day-to-day life.

Unlike being at home where you can put your child in their bed, close the curtains, and turn on white noise, napping on the go is filled with obstacles and uncertainties. There’s noise, light and lots of exciting things to see! It’s difficult to compete with all these things and to signal to a child that it’s time for them to go to sleep.

Enter, sleep covers. Sleep covers are elasticated covers that fit over your pram typically in black or a dark colour. Composed of one or several layers of mesh fabric, they are specially designed to create a safe environment for your child to sleep in. Unlike blankets or other fabrics that could be used to drape over your pram, mesh covers enable breathability and allow air to flow freely in and out of the pram. In addition to being designed for safety, their elasticated sides also enable a snug fit to the pram in order to eliminate as much light as possible.

By covering the pram, sleep covers block out distractions for your child and help to create a dark environment conducive to sleeping. Instead of waiting, wishing, and hoping that your child is going to fall asleep right on plan, you can put the cover over your pram to signal to them that it is time to go to sleep. As a result, you are able to continue your routine and provide consistency for your child while also allowing yourself more flexibility to get out of the house.”

At The Sleepy Avocado we always try to be as flexible as we can with our plans as no one wants to be tied to the house. Sleep covers are such a useful tool to enable those on the go naps to happen when they should and can often help elongate naps too as the baby is more likely to transition between sleep cycles with a sleep cover on.

Coperi sleep covers aren’t your standard sleep covers. They’re made from three layers of breathable mesh they’re also sustainable and attractive. Eilidh has kindly given us a discount code of 10% off all Coperi sleep covers using discount SLEEPY10 - check them out!
