What do you need for your newborn?

It can be so easy to get caught up in the newborn hype and all the marketing surrounding it. It can also feel really overwhelming the amount of targeted ads making you feel that you absolutely need xyz for your new bundle of joy but what do you really need?

Essentially they only need you (plus nappies and clothes). We’re six weeks in to newborn life and here is my list of what you absolutely need, what is nice to have and what you don’t really need…

Definitely need:

  • Nappies

  • Wet wipes

  • Nappy cream - we’ve found Drapolene to be great

  • Baby grows

  • Vests

  • Cellular blankets (the ones with holes in)

  • Cotton wool balls

  • Snowsuit

  • Car seat

Nice to have:

  • Nipple cream (Lansinoh balm works)

  • Multi-mam breastfeeding compresses - think face mask for your nips. Incredible.

  • Swaddle

  • Sling - the bamboo/cotton ones are fab for tiny babies

  • White noise

  • Dummies

  • Muslins

  • Vanish (for the poonami’s)

  • Night light (warm - red/orange)

  • Bouncer

  • Pram

  • Sheepskin mat

  • Baby bath

  • Baby moisturiser

  • Humidifier (if they’re snuffly this can help)

  • Breast pump

  • Steriliser

  • Milk storage bags

  • Bottles

  • Formula

  • Black and white books

Don’t need:

  • Cute outfits - they live in their PJs

What else is missing from any list?
